How many more states does Obama have to win to be considered a legitimate nominee?
He’s beating Hillary Clinton by pledged delegates, by states, and still it doesn’t seem like people are giving him the benefit of the doubt. Every one of his wins is spinned into insignficance. Every time he defeats Clinton, there’s some excuse that takes shape in the media, and they’re still waiting for Hillary to come out on top. So tell me, you’re going to discount Iowa? Ok. South Carolina? Sure. Georgia, yeah it’s just one more state. How about Washington, Kansas, Illinois, Colorado Nebraska, Idaho, Lousiana, Delaware, Missouri, Alabama, Alaska, Conneticut, Minnesota, and Utah. Somebody out there got some kind of lame excuse why they don’t matter too? The US is more than just New York and California. And Obama won a share of delegates in those states too. Time to stop doubting. Polls put him over McCain.
Right now Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are at a point where both have a solid base of supporters. It’s split the Democratic party in half, so to speak (many independents vote for Obama). The thing to do now for one of them to win, is to appeal to other’s base of supporters enough to get a majority. Obama is doing that by getting endorsements from prominent politicans that appeal to Clinton’s base. Clinton however is turning just about everything Obama says into some kind of skewed half truth, At every point she’s diminishing Obama and his accomplishments in the primary race thus far. Considering how passionate Obama’s base is, I don’t see how that’s going to get her to break out from just her supporters.
Obama is more likely to draw in Clinton’s base, than vice versa.
But still everyone expects Hillary to win. I don’t get it. What will it take?
About the Republican Primary
You know what’s funny? I don’t really dislike any of the Republican front-runners. I probably wouldn’t have liked Rudy. If Gorge Allen hadn’t used a racial slur to let us all know how racist he is, he’d probably be the front-runner right now, and I’d probably be very unhappy with the idea of him winning the election. I mean I’d probably not vote for them, but they don’t make me angry. When Romney or McCain say something ‘conservative’ it makes me chuckle a little, because I think they’re just pandering to the right for the nomination.
You know what else is funny is reading conservative blogs talk about their party’s nominees with confusion and dispair. Even conservative talk radio isn’t happy. It kind of makes me happy.
Why Am I For Obama?
Sometimes, even to me, it seems like I’m less an Obama fan, and more just anti-Clinton. That’s not true. Even when I thought positively of Clinton I was for Obama. The man just inspires me to imagine a great America. But you know it doesn’t take much for me to root for a candidate, just two qualifiers:
Liberal values
Positive attitude
That’s Obama in a nutshell. That’s also Bill Richardson, John Edwards, and many of the others. Clinton - maybe the first, but definitely she strikes out on the last. As further evidence of her treachery: She’s trying to have the Michigan and Flordia votes reinstated! And look at this ridiculous explanation:
I hear all the time from people in Florida and Michigan that they want their voices heard in selecting the Democratic nominee.
I believe our nominee will need the enthusiastic support of Democrats in these states to win the general election, and so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan.
What? It’s all about her! She doesn’t care about the people in Flordia or Michigan, you think she’d try to have them reinstated if she had lost Michigan? Her name was the only one on the ballot? You think she’s honest? You think those were real tears in New Hampshire? You think she is going to think of you and not herself when she is president? Why did The New York Times endorse her? WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE VOTING FOR HER???!!!!
STOP IT!
I’m not the only Democrat who doesn’t like Clinton
A quote that addresses the problem succinctly:
There are many serious and thoughtful liberals and Democrats who support Mr. Obama and John Edwards, and who are seeing Mr. Clinton in a new way and saying so. Here is William Greider in The Nation, the venerable left-liberal magazine. The Clintons are “high minded” on the surface but “smarmily duplicitous underneath, meanwhile jabbing hard at the groin area. They are a slippery pair and come as a package. The nation is at fair risk of getting them back in the White House for four years.”
Source. I was excited about Clinton running about a year ago. I obviously feel different now. I’m less a Democrat, more an Obamacrat.
But the Clintons are tearing the party apart. It will not be the same after this. It will not be the same after its most famous leader, and probable ultimate victor, treated a proud and accomplished black man who is a U.S. senator as if he were nothing, a mere impediment to their plans. And to do it in a way that signals, to his supporters, How dare you have the temerity, the ingratitude, after all we’ve done for you?
Watch for the GOP to attempt swoop in after the November elections and make profit of the wreckage.
Yes, yes. This lady, Peggy Noonan - a conservative -, says what it is I feel. She is on it.
New York Times Endorses Hillary Clinton
Unfortunately, The New York Times has chosen to endorse Hillary. The rational goes on at great length about how ‘brilliant’ she is and what she is capable of. It doesn’t even mention the biggest problem detractors have with her: her trustworthiness and her willingness to sink to any depth for the nomination and the presidency. I am very surprised. I read the endorsement in great disbelief. I don’t know why people think that a dishonest person like her can hold a candle to someone as positive and inspiring as Barack Obama.
I just don’t even want to read this paper any more. I will never vote for Hillary Clinton, never. I think having a woman president would be a great thing. I would vote for Gabrielle Giffords in a heartbeat. But not Hillary Clinton. I’ve voted for democrats in every presidential election, but if she wins the nomination I will not vote for her. To me she represents everything that’s wrong with the Democratic party.
She’s incredibly, and thankfully, unlikely to win the presidency because almost half of America already dislike her severely (I am one of them). She is going to get destroyed by Republicans this year. The swift boat debacle of 2004 will seem like mild rebuke in comparison. How can she possibly win the general election when even democrats, a few including me who I know, do not like her. The only thing she’s brilliant at is faking some tears when she faced the prospect of failure. The day before the NH race it seemed like she had bag of tricks and kept pulling out one surprise after another.
If she wins the nomination we either face four more years of a Republican presidency, or another destructive and dishonest Clinton. I just want to tear my hair out. America’s future is not looking great. I really am not looking forward to eight more years of being unhappy with our leadership. How much of my life must be spent governed by politicians that are obviously unfit.
Hillary made a joke
America is Conservative
You know what Republicans do during elections? They point out how liberal their Democrat counterpart is. Well no duh, they’re a Democrat! (I know it didn’t always used to be this way, and still isn’t in some places). You know why Republicans can do this? Because America is conservative. It works because they know most people are not liberal. It’s us versus them, and there’s a lot more of them than us (or vice versa depending on your views).
It’s why conservative radio is #1 in the charts. It’s why Fox News has the highest ratings. It’s why evolution is still being debated. It’s why our war budget is more than the other top ten nations combined. It’s why atheists can’t get elected to office. It’s why we have roads and cars instead of trains and trams. It’s why health care is so expensive. It’s why gays and lesbians grow up being ashamed. It’s why education isn’t important. It’s why there is a shrinking middle class. It’s why we are still using oil, and why it is so expensive. It’s why flying is such a pain. It’s why our prisons are overcrowded. It’s why our national budget is a disaster. It’s why corporations have so much power. It’s why people can’t afford their mortgages. It’s why people in other countries don’t like us.
You know I wonder why I even bother to vote, the candidate I back every time loses. Barak Obama doesn’t seem to be doing well against Clinton, who is on the right of Obama.
And it doesn’t matter anyhow. Even if a liberal is elected to office, they represent a majority of conservatives. It will take many generations for things to change if they will ever, or a catastrophe of the size of the Great Depression (the last time liberals really had a mandate). I don’t like labels. I have some ‘conservative’ views about gun ownership, taxes and other issues. I know we don’t fit in nice and neat labels, but in comparison with the rest of this nation, my way is no way. I just shouldn’t get energized about elections anymore. We can’t win.
